Day 44 to 51 - Rhodes Island, Greece

We arrived at beautiful Rhodes Island in Greece on the evening of the 19th. We checked into 'Sun Hotel and Resort' after a 14 € taxi ride from the port; which provided no other option but to take a taxi. Thankfully, in Greece, Taxi's have fixed rates so we were far more willing. The receptionist took our Green Mamba's and looked at us a little confused. When he eventually handed over our key, our stomachs sunk as he said "Your room is in the third building." This was it, we were expecting to be in the staff quarters of this beautiful resort.

When we finally arrived at the third building, we walked to room 165 which, to our amazement, was absolutely exquisite! It was one of the few rooms that opened right onto the beach, and is on the ground floor. We were so excited that this beautiful new apartment/villa was going to be our home in Greece for the next 7 days. It sleeps 4, so that's probably why the receptionist was confused. Or maybe because of our nationality again?

The first thing we did was go find a supermarket to stock up for the week. When you guys asked us how the Greece food is, we couldn't lie - we indulged in Kellogg's cereal, hot dogs, pasta, toast and eggs, snacks and baked potatoes with tuna. Unfortunately, the supermarkets here aren't like Underberg Spar, and so we just had to make do with what this little island supplied. We did, however, make an effort to try the food that Greece offers at restaurants when visiting sites outside the resort.

Our first visit was to The Old Town, the oldest inhabited medieval town in Europe. It's absolutely HUGE, and our Haviannas "slops" (flip flops) didn't do us justice. It felt like Venice, but without the canals. We walked around this town, looked at the little shops which target British Tourists with their inflated prices, and finally found a cheaper place to eat outside The Old Town. We tried the Greece chicken Tzasiki (not 100% sure of the spelling) Wraps.

Our next visit outside our resort, was Lindos Beach. It's tucked away on the other side of the island - which meant that we had to catch a 1 hour bus. This spot took our breath away, and we didn't want to leave. The water is crystal clear blue, and the beach is sandy; something most beaches in Europe are missing. The beach even has free wifi and lounges with umbrella's!

Our resort has two spectacular pools and is set right on 'Sun Beach.' We grilled our rumps (tanned), swam and read our books. A real relaxation treat! Thanks mom & dad for having extra RCI points that were due to expire. We appreciate this week - and feel reenergized and ready to explore and adventure again. If someone didn't know any different, they would think that we were on holiday!

Next Stop: Athens at 5AM in the morning of the 26th (early flights to save money, and prevent taking an overnight ferry).

Missing you guys lots,
Ash & Bruce.
